Spotlight on Pleasant Valley Stream Projects
ProJo Article Highlights Completion of Work to Manage Storm Water Run-off
This past Friday we celebrated the completion of the last of the projects that have been underway in our Ward to help reduce storm water run-off into the Narragansett Bay from the Woonasquatucket River, of which the Pleasant Valley Stream is a tributary. Friday’s edition of The Providence Journal featured a story about the work being done in Elmhurst: “Little stream in Providence provides a model for making the Bay cleaner.”
Water that runs into the Pleasant Valley Stream eventually ends up in the bay, which in that past has meant toxic chemicals, plastic bags, and other refuse have flowed into the river and eventually into the bay and out to sea. The project in our ward began in 2015, and was adopted by many of our homeowners who took steps to manage and reduce the storm water run off from their homes into the stream. Now, our program is a model for other cities in Rhode Island looking to help keep our bay clean!
I’m proud of all the good work we’ve done and of the recognition this work is getting state-wide. Thank you to all who have been actively involved since the beginning.
