Single-Use Plastic Bag Ban Going Into Effect
The City Wide Ban Begins Oct. 22
Passage of the single-use plastic bag ban has been a major focus for me for the past year and a half. I have posted serval articles that explain why this is so vitally important for our Ward and the City as a whole.
This environmentally sound ordinance is necessary to protect the water ways in and around Providence. Single-use plastic bags are a primary cause of litter in the city and when they get caught up in storm water, can end up in local water ways, including the Narragansett Bay. This will require us all to make some changes when we head out to shop, the main one being using multi-use bags when we shop. Stay tuned for more information on this vital piece of legislation.
